Luminaria 2009

Luminary in a Nutshell:

  • This service project is our only fund raiser for the year.  The proceeds pay for all of our activites throughtout the year (campsite rentals, Vertical Edge, Courts of Honor, etc).  Because we have only one fundraiser, we expect all Scouts and parents to participate in all phases of the project.
  • There is not a minimun number of hours that Scouts and parents are asked to participate.  We ask that you contribute all the time that you can until all of the work is done, which could be from 5 hours to 10 hours.  This is a team effort and we need the dedicated effort of every team member to make this project run smoothly and quickly.
  • We do track the hours that the Scout and his family contribute toward this project.  Each year we set a minimum number of hours a Scout must work in order to earn a discount on summer camp fees.  6 hours was the bar last year, but that bar could change this year.   It is based on the amount of work and the time it takes to get it done.
  • Be sure to sign in (Scout and family members) on both the assembly day and the delivery day so that your hours of participation can be tracked.
  • Dress in Class B shirts if possible.  It can be chilly outside and in the building during assembly, so dress in layers.  Once you get the rhythm of the assembly line, you'll warm up!
  • Have fun!  If this is your first time participating, you will be amazed at how well your Scout works as a team to get the job done quickly and efficiently.  We will mix experienced Scouts and parents with new Scouts and parents to teach you the system of assembling a luminary kit.  You will be surprised at how easy it is to pick up and how much fun it actually is.
  • There will be teams assembled for the delivery day.  Parents will drive vehicles to bring Scouts on a set route so they can deliver luminaries to homes in our designated neighborhood.
